Associate – Data Scientist
Yihua Shi Astle is a data professional with experience across a variety of industries including finance, media, and market research. She is passionate about using data science to deliver actionable insights and guiding businesses to make intelligent decisions.
Yihua has extensive experience working with different types of data, handling data quality issues, and identifying business solutions. She was a Financial Economist at Fannie Mae, where she used advanced analytics to facilitate loss mitigation and real estate pricing. She also designed and implemented a data-mining tool to discover defect loans and reduce counterparty risk in loan acquisitions.
Prior to Fannie Mae, Yihua was a Statistical Modeler under the Data Science and Consumer Insight Group at Gannett, the USA Today Network. She used statistical analyses and predictive modeling to improve customer acquisition and retention and B2B advertiser’s churn rate. By leveraging rich digital data and advanced analytics, Yihua effectively helped the marketing and product team to enhance online readers’ engagement and experience, cut costs in marketing campaigns, and design innovative digital products.
Yihua graduated first in her class with a Master’s in International Economics from the University of California, San Diego. Her research focused on quantitative methods in social sciences. She has rich research experience in impact evaluation using randomized control trails and leveraging longitudinal data in explanatory studies on policy issues. Before San Diego, Yihua obtained bachelor’s degrees in Economics and Finance from the University of Hong Kong on a merit-based full-ride scholarship.
